Excellent Detect Nerd profile in the Columbia Tribune

Thank you to Aarik Danielsen for the very thoughtful and accurate profile of Detect Nerd. And check out Dani Mondloch's great photos, too!

"Detect Nerd is casting a benevolent spell on Columbia... Forged around common interests — namely, Dungeons & Dragons and other tabletop games — the local collective takes its preoccupations public. Detect Nerd hosts live-streamed campaigns, movie meet-ups and in-person events that, to hear its founders' descriptions, take the form of a real-time trust fall, involving a delightful alchemy of storytelling, improv comedy and community-building."

Tiny Dungeon:
Raindrops

May 17, 2024 • Doors: 7:00 PM • Start: 7:30 PM

Join Detect Nerd as they continue exploring a familiar but fantastic world of adventurous woodland creatures in Raindrops — a new improv RPG story, and the second in their “Tiny Dungeons” live performances series.

Within an old abandoned farm lies The Haven, a settlement of wild animals coexisting in peace and safety. Our players resume their roles of opossum, raccoon, woodpecker from The Wild Flurry and add a new screech owl friend. Having survived a winter that threatened them with natural and unnatural dangers, our woodland citizens celebrate the arrival of spring, unaware of new mysteries and challenges awaiting them.

Friday, May 17th at King Theodore Records (1018 Artist Alley, Suite 100, Columbia, MO). Doors at 7:00pm, show at 7:30pm. Free admission. With Chris Dijak, Isolde Finney, Anna Furstenau Grey, Elizabeth Keach, game manager Douglas Miller, and featuring live improvised soundtrack from guitarist Austin Jones.

Detect Nerd presents a new kind of acoustic, live tabletop roleplaying adventure experience called Tiny Dungeon. Immerse yourself in an intimate, collective storytelling session with gameplay and improvisation provided by four players and one game master. Plus live original music to accompany the story. Cozy-your-mom’s-basement vibes and environment provided by King Theodore Records. Grab a drink at Fretboard Coffee and have a seat around the table. Take a step into a newly-imagined world with us!

Detect Nerd is a Columbia group that presents live gameplay on stage, studio adventure campaigns on YouTube, social meetups for nerdy people, and outreach events to encourage new gamers and community.
