Witches & Wizards Arcade presents Fantasy Film Friday hosted by Detect Nerd. Columbia’s coolest/nerdiest, free, film series features trivia, commentary, raffle prizes and more! Right next to great food from Irene's BBQ and fantastic drinks from Six-Mile Ordinary, so make a whole night of it!

We return with the film that raised Star Trek from the dead — 1979’s Star Trek: The Motion Picture. Often overlooked in favor of more action-oriented sequels, this classic focuses on the characters and philosophical themes that made the original series great . Directed by Robert Wise — yes, that Robert Wise — winner of Academy Awards for directing West Side Story and The Sound of Music. And featuring beautiful practical visual effects from Douglas Trumbull, responsible for 2001: A Space Odyssey, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and Blade Runner. Plus all of the original series cast, still in their prime.

Star Trek: The Motion Picture shows Friday, March 22 at 7:00pm in the interior theater inside Witches & Wizards Arcade, 1214 Eugenia Street — with additional parking on Fay Street. Free admission! Beverages are available. Elizabeth Keach and Doug Miller of Columbia’s nerd/gaming group Detect Nerd host the show with trivia, commentary, and raffle prizes.
